Stunning Views and Classic Gardens
There are two types of view in the High Country -
breathtaking and sublime.
For breathtaking views across our forest, mountains and
waterways, stop in at Power's Lookout.
Or, if you're something of a romantic, take in the sunset on
top of Mt Buller, that's a magical way to end a day up here.
Take in the beautiful classic country garden at Delatite
Homestead, it's well worth a visit. Driving here is scenic
too, for a completely different perspective on the region,
take the Skyline Road around Lake Eildon, where the lake's
fingers shine an impossible sapphire blue.
The back roads of Jamieson give you a glimpse of real
country, with ever changing views of Mt Buller as your
backdrop, and for a true alpine experience behind the wheel,
drive the Mt Stirling circuit road, watch as Mt Cobbler
changes shape, revealing a near perfect North American
Indian brave's profile.
You can break your journey for a quick stroll up to Craig's
Hut and the experience is complete.

Country produce all have a real passion for what they do. Look out for delicious specialties such as Verde olives, chevre cheese and estate bottled olive oils. Smoked trout and locally reared, aged beef are also highlights, as well as the wide range of delicious produce. There are also plenty of eateries - from cafes to fine dining restaurants - where you can indulge your own passion for High Country tastes. And of course, nothing complements the local gourmet fare quite like locally produced wines. The High Country encompasses what is known as the High Country wine region. Vines hug the hinterland and grape varietals include classic Shiraz and Riesling as well as Viognier. The winemakers themselves are definitely worth a visit, and if wine isn't your thing, you can visit a High Country micro-brewery for delicious boutique beers, made with crystal clear mountain waters. So what would we recommend as the ultimate High Country gastronomic experience? Take a gourmet picnic loaded with regional produce plus a bottle of local wine or beer, and head up into the mountains to enjoy it with the views. It's great for the digestion! |
